The River Coquet. A personal view by MiE Fielding

MiE (Mike Fielding) has brought his passion and expertise for birdwatching to this visual journey along one of the country’s most beautiful waterways. The majesty of the landscape and its wildlife is captured by the author’s own distinctive and evocative artwork. Birdwatching, history and art are combined wonderfully to give the reader a very personal vision of The River Coquet.

Exhibition: The River Coquet in Newcastle

Thursday 14th April 2022

The River Coquet runs through some of the most stunning landscapes in Northumberland, inspiring a musician, artist and naturalist to pay tribute. Tony Henderson reports.

With a passion for both art and nature, MiE Fielding is very much at home living next to what he doubtless feels is Northumberland’s loveliest river.

MiE lives in West Thirston, which is linked to Felton by bridges over the River Coquet.

The river runs for 57 miles from the Cheviots, through the villages of Alwinton, Harbottle, Holystone, Hepple, Thropton, Rothbury and Warkworth before meeting the sea near the RSPB reserve of Coquet Island.

Plenty of opportunity then, for MiE to follow his love of birding and recording species in their landscapes in his artworks.

Now he has written, and illustrated with his art, a book which he describes as a personal portrait of the river........more
